IT’S OFFICIAL! S.A.V.E.’s community electronics recycling event has been finalized. Just hold on to your old computers, stereos and accessories for a few more weeks and then bring them to the K-Mart parking lot to be responsibly recycled. There will be a charge to accept many of the items. Prices and details will be available at Savemobile.org as the date approaches.

In 2006, Seven Montana communities recycled 169 tons of Electronic Equipment. That means over 338,000 pounds of re-usable materials were kept of of Montana landfills. Valuable natural resources, such as gold, copper, palladium and lead weere recovered to be used again, along with metal and plastic components.

Jefferson County Genealogy Society will be featuring Lois Lonnquist, author of the history, “Fifty Cents an Hour: The Builders and Boomtowns of the Fort Peck Dam.”
Lois and her husband Del will tell the story and sing her songs about the Fort Peck Dam Project in northeastern Montana during the 1930’s Great Depression. The dam, built by the Army Corps of Engineers, provided jobs for thousands of unemployed workers during the severe drought and hard times of the 1930s. It is still the largest hydraulically filled earth dam in the world. Of the eighteen boomtowns that sprung up around the project, only one remains.
Following the presentation, Lois will answer questions about her research and how her unique approach to promoting “Fifty Cents” can be used by others to share local history. Autographed books will be available for purchase.
The business meeting will be held following the program.
The director of the 21st CCLC program, Maryellen Earnhardt is scheduled to speak at the July 1st, 2008 Commissioners Meeting. Mrs. Earnhardt will be requesting the support of the Commissioners in placing a mill levy request onto the November 2008 Election Ballot.The mill levy could then sustain the Boulder 21st Century Community Learning Center’s 5 year program after the grant ends in June 2008, as well as fund additional programs in other community centers and schools throughout the county.
The 21st CCLC offers programs to enrich children and adults academically and economically within the community. With approval and passing of the mill levy ballot by the public it would support, the additional programs and resources would be available as long term solutions to reducing poverty within the community.
