Water Treatment Begins

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Yesterday, March 25, announcements were posted by the City of Boulder notifying residents that chemical treatment of the city’s water has begun. It is possible that some houses will have discolored water at the beginning of the process and it is recommended that residents simply run the tap until the water is clear again.
The addition of orthophosphate is intended to coat pipes to prevent copper from entering the water supply. A fact sheet about orthophosphates was posted with the announcements. Another list of basic facts about the use of orthophosphates in drinking water are available online from the EPA.
An article with background information about the controversy surrounding treatment of Boulder’s water is available online from the Helena IR.
If you have more questions about the new water treatment please call the City of Boulder at 225-3381.
